Can I use a dynamic Ip address with Micros and merchant link. The only modem Comcast Business class will give me is an smc 8014. I have reboot it every day. If I get a dynamic IP I can use a Motorola or my own modem. Better quality. They will not let us use a cisco unless we buy a class c block of ip addresses. Even a zyzel would work better.

Hi,

No, you cant make Micros DHCP. All communication with the DB is via ports on the IIS, and all the clients are also static (open MDSHOSTS.xml and MDSPRINTHOSTS.xml) and you will see what I mean. If you get clever however, and have a properly managed network & DHCP controller (your modem), you could allocate a specific IP to the MAC address of the NIC (network interface card).
There are two IP addresses: the local address (subnet) and the public. The Modem has a public address and a local address. It shouldnt matter what the public addresses are. With Micros we usuall have the Micros server, then a separate CC gateway server on the same subnet, and this posts out to the internet to the Gateway server etc.

Does this help?

I think MrPinks comment is a bit long winded. You MICROS network in your store will be a static network. This means nothing in regards to your question.

There is NO reason to pay Comcast for your own IP. You are not hosting any services so your IP can change at will. If you need to connect remotely, setup a dyndns account. You CAN and would like to save money using a dynamic IP from Comcast.
