Hello. I have an issue with a Micros 9700 system. We have 2 terminals at a remote location on our property. The connection to these terminals is over a network extender. Over the years the wire has been damaged and repaired that it is now at the point of being useless. It took 2 hours to update a 56k database!

Well, we decided to put a VPN connection in and it works great for the 2 PCs which are there and when I inquired about this with Micros they said as long as the server can ping the terminals and the terminals can ping the server it should all work fine. I can ping both ways and it worked... for 3 days and then it stopped working. Since then I cannot get them to connect or see the server through CAL even though the pinging works and through the network I see the traffic going through and being forwarded.

I have been working on this for 3 weeks to no avail. We have reformatted the Flash Memory. I tried putting the terminal names and IPs in the hosts file and nothing.

The new IPs were entered into the server and the server restarted and no change. Originally there was a space in the name and we removed that and no change.

The main buildings IP is 192.168.1.x and the remote is 18.3.26.x.

There must be something I am missing but all traffic looks fine and to be forwarded back and forth across the permanent VPN tunnel.

Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!

Jimruns919,

A few weeks ago I was able to get VPN working on a 3700 system.
I had to enter manually the info in CAL as it won't list anything as the remote site and local site are on different subnet.
Enter the correct ip of the server and the remote station as well as the remote ws name. Names are case sensitive.

Good luck.

I forgot to mention that after the CAL runs, I had to copy manually the MDShost.xml file from the server to the remote site. A USB stick did the trick.

Best

I have seen that in other forums. This is a 9700 and there isn't an MDSHOSTS file anywhere on either the terminal or the Server.

I have done everything they asked. I opened the ports they requested. I even turned the FW all for about 30-45 minutes while they did testing to rule that out.

I was told as long as I can ping the server and the terminals back and forth this would work and it's not. It did work for 3 days and then it stopped. Not sure why and it's driving me crazy as now these terminals are just paperweights.

Since my 9700 does not have an MDSHOSTS file, does that need to be created? I even suggested putting the information into the terminal registry and they said that would be useless.

When you enter the server info manually into CAL what happens ? does it copy any files ?

When you start the CAL service on the Server to bring the workstations up are you able to see the listing for the workstations? Will the ops client start on the Workstation, at least go to the UP/DOWN contrast screen? If you can see this do the Left/Right/Left to get into the configuration for the workstation and check the PC Interface make sure the Primary address and SCC numbers are correct.
