Micros 9700 HMS 4.0 - how to configure gift card sales? 1

I just received a demo version of Micros 9700 HMS 4.0 from Oracle. They've provided the software, but only very limited support, so trying to figure things out myself if I can.

Our Oracle contact said that this package should include the ability to test gift card providers (specifically "First Data" and "Givex"), but I do not see any extra installers/files that seem like they would include these features. Are these included in the base installer usually? I installed it, and no errors, and I can do the normal basic stuff I've done in demo versions before, however, I get this error when I try to view "General Configuration" under "Stored Value Cards" in EMC Configurator:

"Unable to read configuration file on server. Check if Stored Value Card feature is installed properly."

Hoping someone here can give me some more details of exactly what I need to get from Oracle, before I go back to our contact and question this package having what they stated (I only get to speak with them about once every few weeks, so want to make sure I know exactly what to ask for).

You have to contact the 3rd party vendor for the Gift Cards to have them help set that up. You should be able to setup the Stored Value card configuration per RVC. However, I am not sure if you can test them without some sort of card or card number. The Stored Value Cards use one of the interfaces in Micros.

What type of Restaurant/site are you setting up that you would want to use Micros 9700 v4. The system is for large sites with multiple outlets. I'm supprised they didn't push Simphony on you.

Do you have any links or know what documentation (PDF filename even, I have 50+ PDFs from Oracle/Micros) I should look at for setting this up:

"You should be able to setup the Stored Value card configuration per RVC."

This is for sports stadiums.

I specifically asked our Oracle contact about this because I was worried it would require 3rd party software, but he might have been in sales mode when he said "sure, I can include that in your trial package" :) Sounds like I'll have to go back to him for that part, or maybe contact First Data and Givex directly -- that will be a few weeks though, so if I can get the built-in "Stored Value" interface working, at least that's something. Not even worried about having valid card numbers at this point, will be thrilled if I can get to a point I can enter a gift card number, have it make a request to the cloud processor, and get an "invalid card" response from the cloud. At least then I know the setup is 99% done and I can pass this off to the next person.

They also included Symphony v1 and v2 in this package they gave me... if either of those would include any of this gift card processing "out of the box" and/or be easier to configure, I'd try those. To be honest my boss just wants to see something working, with gift cards (that's like his #1 only focus on all these POS systems I'm looking at). If I can at least get it all working to the point I can say "it's working, but we just need to get some valid (real or test) gift card numbers now" -- that would be a huge win!

List of files they gave me below. So far I've only installed/ran 9700_4.0GR_setup.exe -- after installing all of the requirements (Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, sdelete).

In a prior package they had given me a few years ago, for an older 9700 version, it had a separate setup for "Stored Value" (svcsetup.exe, I think was the name). Not sure if I should still need that to get gift cards setup, or if that is no longer needed (moved to core installer?).

What I have is only for Micros 3700. I haven't set it up for 9700 or Simphony. The site I am at go with a 3rd Party Gift Card, which is with the Card Processor. The Card processor sets up everything for you.

Also, I would suggest installing Simphony v2. Micros 9700 v4 is pretty much out dated and was only given v4 for all the large sites out there on v3.x, mainly for PCI compliance.
