micros 5.0 install fails

I am getting beat up by micros security features.
I am attempting to install a clean version of 5.0 for a test box.
pre recs install fine.
When the system goes to rebuild the newly created database it dies.
The log has the following;

SQL Anywhere Unload Utility Version 11.0.1.2596
Connecting and initializing
***** SQL error: Invalid user ID or password

If I try to open the DB with the Sybase Micros server I get an invalid database encryption key error.

That happened to me once, 90 minutes before my first 5.1 site was going live, and I still dread ever seeing it again.

From what I was told there was some kind of corruption and the encryption keys in the database and applications were mismatched. We tried restoring a database backup, both from the archive directory and from a mounted image taken 2 days earlier, and neither worked. Also tried dropping in a blank Res3.2 sp7 just to get the db engine going and still got that error. Micros finally ended up renaming the Micros folder, mounting the two day old image and copying over the entire Micros folder, then restoring the most recent DB backup. It was a miserable experience that I don't want to repeat.
