I have a number of registers that will pause randomly for 5-10 seconds when tendering a transaction. I see nothing in the logs to indicate any errors. Has anyone seen this behavior before. Any thoughts. Thanks!

Hi,
I have seen it a fair bit myself, usually 3-5 seconds, and heres a list of my reasons:
1. Interfaces: An Interface service not running, timing out. (There may be an interface not set up properly) Maybe you are using an integrated card system or something?
2. Printing: A lot of IDN printers daisy-chained resulting in a high workload on the Print Controller for the job (the workstation controlling the printing). Try spreading the workload or use IP printers.
3. What specs is the workstation? A WS4 is slow, a WS4 LX is much faster. You can identify the LX as it has 4 USB ports on the rear?
4. What spec is the server, the usual RAM etc. While here evaluate the setup, if you have a large number or stations, Micros recommends 32bit clients to take processing load off the server (Windows CE is an RTOS, so much of the processing occurs on the server)
5. Network traffic / Speed: These days I put an additional NIC into the server, and have POS on its own switch. The 2nd NIC bridges to the other network for support / dial in etc, and generally keeps things safe. When running an office etc on the same network, it is too hard to identify if someone is using bandwidth downloading stuff, do this would clear that out.

Cheers
