Has anyone tried running a report using Report Explorer but through an auto sequence? I can get the report to run this way but cannot get it to print. Am calling it through a command line using an external program. Looking for the switch to print it to a disc file.
Thanks

Why not just add the report to your Custom Reports and then print to file in the Autosequence?

Tried that but the report has a parameter. When running it through autosequence it pops up asking for the paremeter input (which it actually gives you....1) I am told that any reports with parameters have to be run through report explorer.

You set the parameters to pass the report for the autosequence, in the Autosequence Steps options. Go there, select the step (your report) goto the RANGES tab and enter the values you want. The values available for a report are dependant on the report class of the report template.
i.e. a report that is an RVC Sales Balance class, can be passed a DATE and an RVC parameter.

Additional ranges (for other report templates) are SHIFT (ie current, previous or all) or RANGE (ie From employee number, to employee number OR from menu item number, to menu item number)

For the typical report you select the date range (yesterday, today) or for a consolidated report go Last Week, or Week to Date.

I would not listen to the person putting you crook in the report explorer. Its a tool to be rum on a win32 client, on a BOH PC. The beauty of autosequences is that you can run them from front of house, automatically on schedules etc.

I can put some basic steps with screen shots if you need a demonstration of how to do it. There is also Report Viewer that runs through Windows Explorer and uses Adobe Reader to present the report through IIS as PDF files (if you have version 4.5 on I think)

Have tried all the basic parameters but the report seems to be calling one that i cant input froom autosequencs. If you could test it on your end and see what the paramter should be. Its the LM - Approaching Too Many Hours report im am trying to run and print with our day end
Thanks

Hey,
is it Approaching Overtime Hours, template report #9705?
The file path is %resrootdir%\micros\res\eo\reports\PPEmpOvertime.rpt

If so try the following:
1. In REPORT TEMPLATES Copy and paste the report to over 10000 range, and enter the complete path i.e c:\program files\micros\res\eo\reports\PPWeeklyTimeSheet.rpt (as these reports are outside the usual 'REPORTS' directory)

2. Add an autosequence as usual, link it to the report created above and you will find two fields available to send as parameters: They are DATE and RANGE. Date is obvious (say maybe Week to Date) and RANGE is the employee from and to number range. Select ALL. Set these values in the RANGES tab.
**Make sure on the AUTOSEQUENCE tab you have unchecked HIDE ON RUN SCREEN and USE LIST.

3. Goto Autosequences & Reports and give it a run. The above worked for me, you may have a custom report that I dont have.

So followed what your steps and still a no go. And yes it is report PPEmpOvertime.rpt i am trying to run (your copy/paste example template refers to PPWeeklyTimesheet)Following your example the only field it allows me to put in is "range" which i select all. In Report Templates what is the Report Class assisgned? So fiddled with the Report Class and got it to come up with both field prompts but whatever i enter as values the report no prints, but does so with no data.

So report class you are using?

A crazy thing just happened. I deleted the report to make you a video (TeamViewer video) and it went a little different to original. Anyway, this time I had to create a custom report class and link it to that, it works and runs correctly (with preview) and I dont have any employees with hours in this DB I use for programming.

Please watch and follow the video in TeamViewer (doenload the free version from teamviewer.com) and you get the added bonus of learning how to create a custom report class.

Update how you get on.

Now to go and jailbreak my ipad...

And you have got to tell me, is it a Micros fool that is trying you to use report explorer in a crazy way? I could do with a laugh :)

Followed the steps exactly again and still no data will show (the report will run though :) just not return anything) If you look on your video when you preview the report top left hand corner it is coming up no report date...same as mine. So i think if you did have employee data to draw from it would also not be showing. Thanks for all your help so far but it seems a parameter is still missing to actually run this report correctly.
