What are some troubleshooting techniques I can try to get our Micros 3700 magnetic card reader working again before I spend an arm and a leg on Micros Tech Support or a new reader?

Eclipe? WS4? WS4LX? WS5? WS5A? WS6? MTablet-R Series? 8 inch E series? 11 inch E series? 2015? 2010?

Not to come off as an ass, but there are quite a few devices with mag card readers, all of which are slightly different. Those aren't even all of them.

You can try cleaning it. Many places sale card reader cleaners. They come in a sealed package, they are shaped like a credit card, and moistened with a cleaning solution.

BLOW IT OUT/ OR WRAP A PLASTIC BAG AROUND CC AND SWIPE UP/DOWN. SOUNDS CRAZY BUT HAS WORKED GL

Another thing, is it all Cards that are swiped that have this issue (Credit Cards, Gift Cards, Micros Cards and such)?

I have fixed these before by folding a paper towel and dampening the folded edge with isopropyl alcohol, then running it through the msr a few times. If that doesn't cure it then you are going to have to bite the bullet on a repair.

As already said the most common reason is just the build up of crap on the reading heads.

I wouldnt use a wet paper towl, you might end up making it worse.

Find a thin cloth thats not going to come apart when damp. Wrap it around a credit card and swipe it though a load of times.
Wait for it to dry and try again.

Do you want some custom SIM scripts developed. Contact me via my website
