Hello

I have a test system that I inherited and would like to update it with a database from a different location.

Can someone please advise on the database restore process.

It would appear that a new database can be restored via the micros database maanger by browsing to the mbz file. Are there any other settings or processes that need to be run?

Machine names and IP addresses will be differnt but the RES version (4.1) is the same.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

There aren't really any settings to change with a db restore. Once you have it restored you just have to go into Network Nodes and change the IP and computer name for the server record to match you test PC. I usually go into \micros\common\etc and rename the MDSHosts.xml and MDSPrinters.xml files and then reload the database from control panel.

Obviously back up the working database you have, but I always keep an old Res 3.2 sp7 on hand. I got stuck once a few years ago with a database restore that completed, but the db wouldn't start. I couldn't even get into DB Manager to restore my backup.

Res 3.2 didn't use the encrypted backups, so you can just drop in the .db & .log files, start the database in control panel and open DB Manager. There's no associated security settings so you'll be able to upgrade that database or restore a different one.
