Micros 3700 Anyone virtualize the server? How to see License Dongle?

I am trying to virtualize my Micros 3700 server. I have got it to the point where I can run everyhting. However, license maanger says, key not found and puts me into a grace period. I have had luck emulating the key with some software programs, but License manager does not recognize it. I do see the key in Device Manger. Is there any other things to key to recocgnize the hardware? MAC Lock?

What virtualization are you using? Micros RES4 we had to have customers sign a disclaimer that we would not be held liable for VM installations. The problem arises if when you virtualise on a farm and not on one box.

I do mine in VMWare, fully manageable. When tried in MS Server 2008 => virtualisation I only ever had trouble.

Thanks for the reply. I am using HyperV2008R2, 4 node cluster with SAN storage. I was able to P2V the box in the a DEV LAN. I used a dongle emulator and USB networking sharing device. The Dongle does show up on the server in hardware manager, but Licens Manger does not see it. Does LM lock to a MAC address or some other machine charateristic. Is there any other tweaking I can do to make the dongle visable to LM? This is my last hurdle to making this a reality. So close!

Cant help you here. My experience with HyperV on a single box is failure. VMWare is what Micros installers use and it is great, but is always on one computer. It can read the USB keys. But your breaking ground here with the VM on the cluster.

We are running an RES3700 server on a VMware cluster with SAN storage. (Actually we are running the EM3700 server on the cluster, but that's basically a RES3700 server with some extra software.)

We are using an USB Device Server from Silex technology, model number SX-1000U. The only problem is that the software that connects to the USB device server software (SX Virtual Link) isn't started when the system starts up, it's an interactive application. We have put the link for starting the software in the system Startup folder, so whenever someone logs on, the USB is connected and the grace period can be renewed.

I do not know if this will work with HyperV, but I thought I should share the information anyhow.

I have our EM server on a virtual PC. You can get a hardware based USB over IP server (

or a software solution (

We're currently using the software version. It requires the USB Key to be plugged into a physical server. It also starts up automatically after reboot (non-interactive)
