California has specific rules on whether items are taxable. Cold items Togo are not taxable, but with a hot item, all items are taxable. Is there anyone that has successfully done a micros set up that does this correctly and without human error? Can this be done without having to set up multiple buttons AND will apply the tax if necessary.

I too attempted to do something similar with taxes. I didn't find a solution that loved, but what we came up with was using order types to define tax classes. I'm not familiar with California law but, for instance Cold Item (1) would have both non taxable and taxable classes associated with the menu item group. Then you declare the order type to filter out one of the tax rates. The touch screen button may say "hey this order has hot food" or "hey this order doesn't have hot food" but what its doing is swapping order types and each order type either has tax as an eligible class and the other does not.

I'm sure someone had come up with a better way to solve your problem. Hopefully that person responds.
