I know someone who has already purchased 7 Micros workstations, and the server. This person doesnt have the 13,000 to reprogram the machine and was wondering if it was possible to install another POS Software on these machines. It looks like Windows CE is embedded on disk on chips. Is there a way to install another POS program through a network install or installing to the xd drive. Any suggestions would be great. P.s. is there a master password to get into the configuator program?? Thank You!!

Your friend is out of luck. It sounds like they have the UWS 4 CE terminal, and NO it is not friendly to competitors software. It was designed specifically for Micros software.
As of this date I know of no sites that are using Micros UWS 4 terminals with Non-Micros software. This is one drawback (there are plus's as well) to purchasing a proprietary terminal, lower re-sale value and a limited audience to sell it to. Your friend should go back to Micros for a more reasonable price, 13K seems high for installation. Unless there are some unusual circumstances surrounding your application (3 meal periods, 24 hr operation, complicated price structures) the Micros dealer will spend less than 60 hrs installing your system. That's over $200 an hr. It is also possible that the price includes a little punishment since your friend by-passed the Micros dealer for the equipment. You can relate to that scenario, in restaurants they call it a cork fee, cake cutting fee etc. That price must include some re-licensing fees. Good Luck

Thank You very much for the info. Yes if he would of asked me first would of told him no way dont buy it. Well if you know any one who would like to buy let me know. Only think useable is the server which is older, and the printers. Cant even use the cash drawers. Boy what a racket Micros has going on. Thanks
