I am trying to set up a microphone so that I can use Netmeeting. Does Windows XP have it's own microphone? The reason I ask is that the monitor (flat screen) is plugged into the computer in the microphone spot. I have an HP pavillion with an HP flat screen monitor.

The monitor must also be plugged into the video port or else you would not have anything onscreen. Some monitors do have a microphone built into them, I would say this is the case with yours, however there may be a way to enable or disable it. Suggest you read your monitor manual or if you don't have one go to the manufacturer's web site and look for info there. If the mic is there but appears not to work go to your sound card volume controls and ensure microphone is not set to mute

Sounds like you monitor does have a built in mike, you should be able to see a small microphone grille somewhere on the front facia of the monitor? might only be the size of your little finger nail! Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.
