Microphone simply doesn't work!

I've a microphone plugged into my PC which doesn't work, simple as that.

The mic itself is fine (tested on one of my other PCs..) and all the options are as I think they should be, but it just refuses to acknowledge the mic is present - sndvo32 has mic selected for recording, and not muted or anything, and windows is using the correct sound card (the only one!) to look for the mic through, but still nothing.

What's up? Am I missing something obvious?

Have you tried a different mic on this computer? Can you try a different sound card? Is the sound system set up to use the "midi" port for input?

Tried another mic and it's exactly the same problem.

I've tried this USB gizmo that plugs into the USB port and takes both mic and speakers, but again, this doesn't work.

It's as if the PC is simply rejecting any form of mic input!

Have you checked the the recording options in Volume Control are set to your soundcard? sometimes there not so check that.

First maybe microphone jack you are using does not work. Some motherboard can only use one microphone jack Either front or back but not both.

Also in windows you have to go the little speaker icon and slect to open the volume control. On the options menu select properties. On the properties select Record and see if the microphone is enabled as a recordable input device.

You may have some kind of Driver configuration in the control panel that supplements this for your sound card.
