Is there anyone that knows whether the MICRODASH internal USB modem V.92 supports Caller ID at all. I have not been able to get a YES or NO from serveral sources: AppleCare, Apple's web site, Google research, etc. Even Apple's documentation doesn't state yes or no.

Even with applications like "Silica 1.2" and talking direct to the modem with Z-Term, no help. As with Z-Term the modem acknowledged the command: AT+VCID=1 with "OK" but the only response I get is "RING", "RING", "RING"... NO CID info!

For the record I have tried this on a 12" G3 iBOOK w/ 10.3.3, 14" G3 iBOOK w/ 10.4.?, and a G4 POWERBOOK w/ 10.3.9. These are USA machines in California. (The phone line does have CID, I use a CIDCO PA25).

Then there is the modem firmware & driver which seems to be a floating crap game! With 10.3 it shows as v2.6.3, but on 10.4 it shows as v2.6.6 for both f & d! Since when does an OS update change firmware??

Something very odd going on here...

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Have you tried 'ringing' a cellphone from the MAC connected to this line? Then presumably you would see the caller ID...

My G3iBOOK has nothing to do with cell phones. It does not apply here...

Sorry - let me explain more clearly:

My suggestion was to connect the modem to a phone line and to ask the iBook (via the modem) to RING your cell phone. If the modem supports caller ID outwards then you will see the number dialed on your cell phone. If not, then you won't.

I was simply trying to offer a test for you.

Hi Fee,

In this case the outgoing CID is not the issue. That is a function of the Central Office switch and as to whether it is displayed on the called party's end, is under control of either the caller by not blocking (*82) or blocking (*67) or programmed as a default in either mode in the switch. Thus the reverse can be optioned on a per call basis. That is how it works in most US switches. I am not familiar with any of the CID feature functionality in the UK.

Thanks for your effort anyway.

Ah - sorry. You are looking for an incoming caller ID then I guess.

And you've obviously tested that by ringing it already.

Memo to self - read post more clearly in future...
