I have a Compaq EVO N600C laptop which has 2 mouses (mice) 1) is the little joystick in the middle of the keyboard and 2) is a touch pad.
approx 6 out of 10 times when booting the mouses (mice) do not work and I have to reboot sometimes 3 or 4 times to get them to work.
In all cases its both mice which do not work. they also fail at boot time before anyone logs onto the laptop.
Its windows 2000 pro service pack4
I tried reloading driver,
I have not tried an external mouse to see if this also fails yet....
