Does anyone know if there is a way to make both the speaker and mic stay on while on speakerphone? I amn working on a CICS with T7316S phone.

Norstar handsets are half duplex speaker phones.
There is no way around this limitation.

what is a 7316S model?

handsets are full duplex ..speakerphone is half duplex ..

thats how phones are designed ...the handset has 4 wires or 2 separate paths for the mic and spk in the handset

Why can't the speakerphone spk and mic be wired that way as well. I am just trying to understand this. My customer is really hounding me about this. I want to make sure I've got it before I speak to them again.

Half duplex because of noisy enviroment as the MICs are much more sensative.
If you were doing a 3 party conference let say and one of those parties were in a noisy enviroment then while the other 2 are talking to each other they would hear the noise from that 3rd location so it was designed to.... have them shut up til spoken too! lol.

You can purchase Full Duplex conference units that help in filtering the noise such as POLYCOM.

the meridian range came out with a fullduplex speaker phone 3904 series about a year back ... i dont know if thats going to happen to the norstar phones anytime soon

Yes I was aware of the Polycom phones. Unfortunatley the problem phone is the "Owner" of this business. I don't believe he wants a Conference phone on his desk. Thanks for the info.

If the customer wants to talk on the phone & have other people in the room listen- activate the Group Listen feature. It can be turned on & off, but the user is talking into the handset.

It works great for training, telemarketing floor supervisors, & for times when you want an audible witness.
