MFC42 vs. MFC42d (assertion errors)

Is it posible to get an already existing application to use MFC42.dll instead of MFC42D.dll?

I've got an app I need to use on a windows 2000 PC, but when it runs it gives an assertion error. I think that if I could use mfc42 this wouldn't happen.

Alternatively, does anybody else know how to handle a problem like this?
