Mexplore.exe Virus?

Hi All,

I have windows 2000 professional operating system as a client on the network. I am getting the following error message:

"Mexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

Has a virus caused this problem? This problem is significantly affecting the performance of the machine where programs are either loading very slowly or failing to load, or crash with the above error message.

Any further insight in resolving this issue would be much appreciated!

Yes, it is a virus. It spreads through LANs fairly easily.

if you don't have an antivirus software you can go to

http://www.trendmicro.com

and under trend micro house call you can scan your pc for free. Another one is

http://www.trojanscan.com

i do have norton antivirus installed on all client machines including the one affected, which updates virus definition each day and also, runs daily to scan for viruses. i am just surprised how this virus could have gotten in.

anyway, will give it a go with the removal instructions...
