Has anybody used Metrics Manager? Or does anybody know where I can get some help about it? I'm trying to define a metric type and I'm not sure (based on the documentation) what exactly it is looking for.

If you have a maintainance support license than you can call Cognos Customer Support or check the online knowledgebase. The metrictype is a collection in which you can store multiple metrics. In the metrictype properties you define the behaviour properties for the metrics that belong to that metric type. Properties like the datatype (Currency or General or Percent) and the What is positive propertie (is the difference between the actual and the target positive or negative when it is a negative number)

A metric type is a pot into which you can put a bunch of metrics that all share the same properties.

e.g. UK Sales Value, Scotland Sales Value, Ireland Sales Value could all be metrics of a metric type called Sales Values.

There is no concept of hierarhies in Metrics manager, unlike powercubes, so metric types allow you to create groups of metrics instead.

Thanks for the help. I've tried Cognos Support and haven't found too many people there that know the product. Do you know if there is a way to calculate metrics off of other metrics if there is no target for the child metric? Also - is there a way to specify what that calculation should be (percent or add or divide).

Again thank you for your help.
