Metrics Manager - Two Tomcat server needed?

We just installed Metrics Manager (MM) and Metrics Designer (MD). During the install, the MM manual indicated we needed to install the Apache Tomcat server installed with Cognos Web Services (CWS).

And now, our services show two Tomcats running, one as "Cognos Metrics Manager Version 2 (Apache Tomcat)" and the other simply as "Tomcat". And both point to separate directories running separate Tomcat executables.

Question: to run MM and MD on the same machine, do you have to have both (two) Tomcat services running?

In the configuration of the Web Services you can point WS to use the original Tomcat installed by Metrics Manager. If you have ReportNet installed you will actually have 3 tomcats running.
