I would like to take the Microsoft Project data and create a pie chart based upon the following criteria:

Projects over 10 days past target start date
Projects from 3 to 10 days past target start date
Projects 0 to 3 days past target start data

This way management can visualize overall project status. Any ideas since I don't know where to start. Can I link the data to excel or something?

Thanks in advance!

You'll need an excel macro to:

1. Load project
2. Navigate to the folder where all the project files are located
3. Loop through each file
3a. Open the project
3b. Determine the start date (use the task 0 record)
3c. Compare it to today's date
3d. Save the project name and the delta
3e. Close the project
4. Run the Excel wizard

I'm not sure how this helps to visualize overall project status since it equates all projects (regardless of duration, resource requirements, corporate priority, total cost, etc., etc., etc.) equally.

The choice of a pie chart is even more unhelpful. A chart similar to the Tracking Gantt is far superior for your (somewhat questionable) purposes.

At least the Excel macro isn't particularly difficult to write -- a couple of hours and you should be all done.
