Methods for remote/shared access

Has anyone given thought to or had experience with methods for allowing multiple people to view and update an Access application remotely, say, through a web site or using any other method? I'm developing a scheduling application for use by doctors and nurses. Various people need to view the patient schedules and possibly update them from various physical locations. Without setting up a central physical machine to host the application, are there any other options for implementing this capability?
