Method to emulate a pickup group?

Has anyone come across a method to emulate a pickup group? A customer would like to be able to group users such that when a call is presented to any of the members, another member can dial a shortcode to answer the call. The caller may be presented to a member via transfer from switchboard or via DID. Although the user could be a member of a hunt group, calls will generally not be transferred to the hunt group. Suggestions are most welcome. Thanks.
