Hello all.

I am currently running Windows NT TSE with Metaframe 1.8 in a production environment. Tomorrow I am crashing the server and am going to install Windows 2000 Server with Metaframe 1.8 for 2000 (Not authorized to use Metaframe XP)

Is there any issuse that I should be aware of first before installing? I have been reading that terminal server licensing must be installed. All of my clients are either NT, 2000 or XP. DO I still have to install the license server? I sure hope not. Can I just install terminal Services in the Remote Administration Mode and not have to deal with any Licensing Server? All I do with out MF is publish one App. Not desktops etc.

Will this work without a License Server?

Thanks,

Bill

hi, welcome

When you'll start TS, you'll see in event log,
a message saying your server cannot found TSCAL server:
don't worry. You have 90 days of grace time. After this,
you can install a TS-license-server: on a DC in a AD domain,
or in a member server (always running 2000) in a NT4 domain.
After tsls, you have other 90 days before you must activate it (and buy license pack).

However, for terminals running on W2K-Pro or WXP-Pro,
you dont need license: you need, instead, for NT4-Wst .

TS in administration mode is thinked for administration tasks: you can login interact with max 2 user with admin profile; it doesn't require license.

If you need run application for Domain User, you must
activate TS in "Application Mode".

It's a good idea to don't "share" desktop if you have
terminal running on Windows computer; pubblishing desktop may be useful using Thin-Client, using policy to customizing
desktop, hide server disks, ecc.

bye
