Why can't I created a stripe using different slices??
i.e. metainit d13 1 3 <5GB Area> <10GB Area> <5GB Area>
Gives me a strip size of 15GB instead of 20

Because by definition the columns of a stripe need to be the same width. Why don't you just concatenate them instead, if space is more important than performance?
