Error message received:

Metadata stored on disk for computed column 'xxx' in table 'dbo.zzz' did not match the column definition.

I have been receivig serious bottle necks in performance for half an hour each day for users. When I spoke to the IT team about this, I got told this would be the cause. From what I have read on this error, it doesn't appear to cause any performance issues.

Could someone with a much greater understanding of this than me please let me know if this error would cause timeouts for people trying to connect to this database through the web?

Just guessing here but since that is a computed column there could be something in the data that can not be computed.

I would look at the definition of the computered column then look at the data it is based on.

And yes, computed columns are often slower expecially if you have a large number of records or in this case have an error.
