Is the meta tag statement where you put all the keywords that search engines look for?

Does anybody have any tips on getting to the top in search engine searches.

I know that this is the million dollar question and its not possible to get right at the top without paying for this service but higher up the results could be good.

You actually do not have to pay to get top 10 search engine results. Best thing is to educate yourself as much as you can on how to optimize your site for Search Engines and then brace yourself for the rules to change often.

There is a lot more to it then just your meta tags - which Search Engines are relying a lot less on these days. I think the best quick tip would be to make good page titles that have keywords in them and be sure to repeat those keywords in the page content text. LInks to your site from other sites relative to the content of your site help to boost your page popularity and Page rank with Search Engines.
