Just wanted to get some information on development of a meta data system/repository. I've been tasked to provide a recommendation on the implementation of meta data repository.
Any tips, resources, watch-outs, that kind of thing, thanks

So did you find some information?
I have to do approximatly the same thing including in mine all the SAP objects...

rickeb,

Unless you are in a very unusual environment it is not necessary take this on. I have been there and in my opinion it's not worth it. The development and implementation costs alone were devastating.

There are several caned solutions on the market that have reasonable architecture, implementation, and support and will jump-start your efforts big time. Not sure what type of metadata you are interested in but keep in mind no can solution is complete out of the box. Hence, you will need to do some customization.

Now if you must home grow a solution go to (Object Management Group) and get the metadata interchange standards / specifications and the high level metadata metamodel.

The following site was very useful when I was new to metadata.
go to (The Data Administration Newsletter)
> select the newsletter button in the upper center
> next select the Archive of Past Issues link
> then do Ctrl f and find 'meta' to locate various
metadata white papers and articles.
Some are old but still apply and very useful.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

The web has a tremendous amount of information about meta data. Here is another site you could visit:
Find the DAMA group nearest you and attend one of their meetings. Then get to know some of the attendees and possibly visit their company to see how they have created a repository.

When you find a good method, please let me know. I started with the concept of a data dictionary but now realize that my end users really need more. Check out TDAN.com to find David Marco's article: Meta Data Repositories: Where we've been and where we're going" ...
