What are the implications of disabling the messenger servie in NT 4.0? I do not want to get the "print job complete" pop up anymore. Is there going to be anything else affected by the disble?
I had that problem as well...
If you turn off the messenger service you won´t get any messages at all (through the net send command). If you feel that you don´t need that you can safely turn the feature off.
I need that service, so I had to find out why our print server had to send out annoying messeges everytime I needed something printed.
On the printer server (I assume windows NT). Start - Setting - Printers. Go to File - Server Properties. Go to Advanced and uncheck the nofity when remote documents are printed.

hope this helps.
Nostradamus

I had the messenger service disabled on my entire network and just had to re-enable it for another reason. Evidently the CA Unicenter remote agent uses this service to communicate with distribution servers or staging servers.

Otherwise Nostradamus is right. It is safe to turn off and should be turned off unless you have a specific reason for it. In our case, we finally ended up with a specific reason to leave it on.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
