Messenger question

Is it possible to use windows instant messenger within my organization using only the UID of my AD users only?

you would need to implement Windows Live Communications Server that incorporates windows messenger

LCS is a deprecated product, and was replaced with Office Communications Server.

Yep - on a different server(s), depending on your needs.
