I have a Magix R4 System with a Messaging R1.1 and although the WinSPM inventory shows a messaging card in slot 5. In System Programming Config Merlin Messaging it states no merlin messaging board present. Any ideas?

Autoconfigure is only avalilable on Merlin Messaging R2 or later when installed in a Magix R1.5 or later.

Since you have an R1.1 it won't work

I'm not familiar with "Config Merlin Messaging", can you briefly explain what exactly it does. Thanks

Alex

I also find that when doing the system proigramming for the Messaging Card, after completing almost all steps when I get to Extentions-Group Calling-Group Type and I select Integ VMI it will not allow me to enter it giving me an error tone.

Sounds like that Group is already being used for something else. Setting up the Calling Group for VM is one of the first steps - if you are following the manual - not one of the last. I would do a "print all" to see why the group won't accept "Integrated VM". My guess is you messed up somewhere in setting up your Calling Group correctly.

It appears that what I did was to assign a non messaging dn as a group member which then prevented me from selecting IntegratedVM from the group type. I just deleted all the members and started again after inspecting members and this solved the problem. Thanks all for your assistance.

Can anyone please tell me a little about "Config Merlin Messaging" and what release of Magix and Messaging this program step works with? Thank you.

It works with Magix Messgaing Releases from R2.0 on up. It does a lot of the basic programming for you, setting up a Voice Mail Calling Group, a Cover Group (with all the extensions on your system in it - which you may not want), sets up mailboxes for all extensions, etc. It obviously doesn't record any announcements or choose selector codes for you. You choose the autoconfigure option out of system programming. I believe you also have to be running fairly recent processor software to have the option.

Auto configure is a waste of time. It is only available on the Magix 1.5 and newer using Messaging 2 or newer.

It saves about 2 minutes of programming but takes about 30 minutes to make it right.

I have had nothing but GREAT LUCK with that feature.

It saves me TONS OF TIME when it's available.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I'm tempted to give it a go and see what kind of result I get.

Alex

The deal is, For all extensions you have LABELED with a NAME, it will create a Mailbox. All others get TRANSFER ONLY.

Auto-Config., at best, has saved me 5 to 10 minutes. It is easier for any jr. techs that follow up on the system to look for the standard programming than the differences, minor as they may be, that the auto-conf. produce. As a tech. support provider to multiple feild techs, I have spent more time explaining than time saved by the feature.

I do all my own programming, (and a lot for other folks as well) and when I can use it, it saves me tons of time.

It makes building 20 mailboxes as fast and as easy as using WINSPM to put labels on 20 Extensions.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
