I can't for the life of me remember how to log in to the messaging via the admin software.
I've tried connecting from ethernet to the LAN port, DB9 (winspm) to the LAN port.
When opening the program I'm prompted for IP address or host name then login & password.
I usually just use a phone and dial in and push everything manually. Haven't done a messaging from scratch with more than 20 users, so time is nothing. I'm doing on in 2 days that has 50 users, thought it would be nice and save time if I used the software.
Anyone throw be a bone?

The LAN port - is just that - a LAN port - you cannot use WinSPM - you need to use the appropriate Admin software for the version of Merlin Messaging that you have. To connect - you need to assign a static IP address for the Merlin Messaging - and connect the Merlin Messaging to your LAN. You then use the Messaging Admin software to connect. You can also connect from an individual computer via the computer's ethernet port. In that case you need to configure the IP address of your computer to match the default IP Gateway and Subnet Mask settings in the Merlin Messaging. I use 10.0.0.43 for my PC.

You need to connect to the Messaging module's RS232 port using Hyperterminal - to change tje IP address configuration to match your network LAN settings.

Ahh - one more point - in addition to configuring your PC IP address information to match the Merlin Messaging - you need to use a cross-over LAN cable - when connecting via an individual PC. A straight-thru cable will only work if you are connecting the Messaging unit to an open LAN port.

How do I connect via RS232, and what settings in hyper terminal (baud, stop bit hardware...)? After connecting is there a sequence of commands?
After changing the IP on my laptop then I was getting some action (trying to establish connection) but still saying "make sure IP address is correct". So I need to change the Messagings IP. Thank you!

To connect via Hyperterminal - I use 1200 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and Xon/Xoff protocol. When you press enter - you should get a login prompt. Use "sysadmin" as your login name and whatever the password is for the admin mailbox (usually 123456). You will then get a menu screen, choose configuration - a sub-option will be IP address configuration. If you want to set it to the factory default - it is 10.0.0.42 for the IP address, 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask, and 10.0.0.42 for the Gateway. Configure your PC the same - except set the IP address to 10.0.0.43 - and connect from your ethernet port to the Messaging using a LAN cross-over cable.

OK, I tried this and what Avaya has (bits 38400) still no good. So just tried all of them, 9600 bits got me in.
Sysadmin, password-ok, configuration-ok, but no sub option for IP config after that.
It just spits out all the selector code, sub menu, announcement info, general mailbox info, but no IP config option. After getting in I see its a R.1.1.9 does this play a factor, is it too old?
Any other ideas?

Use the tech1000 login to get to the IP address, same technique as before, just different login name.

You need at least an R2.0 for LAN administration. Each release - starting with R2.0 - has a different version of the LAN Admin software. You cannot mix and match.
