I have a Merlin Messaging 3.0 that just went bad. A Messaging 4.0 was sent onsite. Can you use the 3.0 backup card in the 4.0 system? Is there a way to convert the backup?

I believe you can make any necessary conversion - assuming you actually did do a previous back-up to your port license/backup card. Remember, the back-up PCMCIA would only hold configuration information. There is not enough room on it for a back-up of announcements, mailbox contents, etc. Some of that you could have done - if you were using the LAN administration software. The conversion process, if any is required, for the data on the PCMCIA card and/or your R3 PC administration software should be on the R4.0 GUI administration software CD-ROM that will come with your replacement R4.0 Messaging module - but check with your vendor to make sure.

Actually, it has to be done this way.

First A WORKING SYSTEM has to be backed up to you PC Hard Drive.

Then, you convert the 3.0 to 4.0 and THEN you can RESTORE the converted file to the 4.0.

If all you have is a 3.0 Flash card, it could be loaded and converted on some ones 4.0 and then the translations could be resent to you.

That would require the Flash Card to be PHYSICALLY MAILED to some one.

But, if the OLD 3.0 Processor could still be brought to life, it could be done locally.

We're talking replacing a Merlin Messaging here, and there's no convert utility for that. The release 3 GUI won't work on a Release 4 Messaging, and vice versa. The license card WILL work for licensing the ports, but don't know if the backup/restore will work across the releases.
