Twice over the last few days, I have seen this
==> /var/log/messages: file truncated <==
while tailing messages. I usually keep a terminal open with a tail -f on /var/log/messages, just to keep track of what's going on. Why would the file be truncated?
This is not happening during a log rotation or anything. Also, there doesn't seem to be anything strange in the log file when I get this message from tail. Does the logger ever erase from messages? What might be doing this?
Thanks
J
