messages on console screen printer is down I need to move it.

I would like to have the error message an printer message goto another place other
then the console screen on a standalone risc6000. Because its messing up my backup
at night people here dont fill the printer paper and im alway getting printer is down rolling across the console and when my backup run it locks up the terminal.
Need help.
