Hi all,

Very new to Exchange 2007. We've installed a SBS2008 server, and fortunately the Exchange system was more or less pre-configured for us. I've managed to complete the missing parts of the config and the system is up and running for 20 users with OWA, Internet mail etc.

However, one user has a problem that I'm unable to resolve - there are two messages stuck in their Outbox. Neither of us can delete these message, regardless of how we try: both from the Outlook client and OWA. Trying to delete them doesn't give any errors, they just don't disappear.

The user is still able to send mail - just intermittently one of them will "stick" and doesn't go any where. If the user sends another copy, it goes out fine. As a result, his Outbox is filling up with messages :(

I've tried an integrity check using Eseutil and Isinteg and both report no errors. Can some kind person suggest what to do next?

Hold down Ctrl key or Start -> Run -> Outlook /safe and open outlook in safe mode, file work offline, and delete them.
Also try creating a new profile. Give yourself full permission to the mailbox and see if you can delete them, from your outlook.

So the messages are still sent but they remain in the Outbox?

If so try cycling your cached mode... When in doubt that appears to be a likely culprit.

I have also found alot of people either not closing down properly or not it literate operate in Offline mode for a while without realising. Have you tried that with them?

Hi all,

Thanks for the very useful replies. I was working at the problem from the OWA side of things - the assumption was that the problem must be at the server/database level as the message had made it from the client PC to the server. However, going into the client PC allowed me to delete the message from the Outbox, which was then reflected in OWA.

Interesting, the PC had an old POP3/IMAP profile still in place and set as the default. I'm wondering if somehow Outlook had become confused and tried to send mail through Exchange but using the old settings. Unlikely I know, but it's the best I can come up with :)

Thanks again for all your advice, it steered me in the right direction.

Cheers

Kenny
