Hi Guys,

I've got a Merlin legend v3.1 and I just installed a MLM 007 with 6 ports.

I added the first 6 ports showing in programming to the calling group, then added the cover group to that, finally adding my ext for testing to the cover group.

I can dial my test extension - it goes to voicemail, but no message waiting light - no outcalling (it is enabled with a number in the list) - and menu msg shows none, even though there is a message.

If I dial #53 and my extension, the light works and the menu>msg shows correctly.

I know this topic seems to have been beat to death, but I've had no luck so far.

Thanks,

Bill

Try to dial each individual extension in the call group. Ports 5 and 6 are responsible for outcalling and turning lights on and off. If they answer, the verify the calling group is the right type. lg

Thanks for the reply -

I dialed all 6 ports in my calling group - all 6 went to voicemail - is this correct?

The next port in sequence just rings - but having a 6 port module I should only have the 1st 6 in the group right?

The hunt group is set for linear.

The calling group is set for Integrated VMI.

Thanks kwing -

I know you do on newer versions of the legend processor. I couldn't find the menu items in winSPM and from the docs I've found, the rotary enable setting wasn't in version 3.1.

If I'm wrong and you know how I can access it, let me know.

I did find a <rotary> under <Options> with 2 settings delay and no delay. Neither seemed to make a difference.

Thanks,

Bill

I would test your system's TTRs (Touchtone receivers) to see that they are functioning (this could affect turning on/off the message lights).

For outcalling to work - you need to use system programming to unrestrict VM ports 5 and 6 - and also give those ports trunk-to-trunk transfer authorization.

You do not need to rotary enable the ports on an MLM 007 - only a Merlin Messaging module.

i dont remember working on the 3.1 so maybe its not even there. That may be something they added later.

Rotary enable is only an option on the R7 and all releases of the Magix

It seems to me that the phone isn't "tied" to the mailbox. Is there some step I forgot?

I put vm ports in grp calling
I put extensions (vm users) in coverage group
Coverage group in group calling
Hunt grp type linear
grp type integrated VMI

Is there something that's needed to specifically tie the extention to the vmbox?

Did you setup your VM Calling Group (usually 770) to provide group coverage for Cover Group 30?

Yeah and getting to the mail system seems to work fine. I watched as the first port goes red with a flashing green when I connect. When I hang up ports 5 and 6 go red. First 6 goes off, then 5 after a couple of seconds.

I did notice an error of ABK EXTENSION BUSY and status of slot 00 shows yes for error and alarm. Not sure how to clear them, but I rebooted the sytem this moning and they were persistent. I couldn't find any extensions in programming mode, which is what I've read that error means...

Thanks for taking the time to respond tom - I know you've got your hands full with that pri problem

Does the voicemail allow transfering out of the AA? or do all calls route to the operator? Do you have any modules in the system with TTRs (touchtone receivers)? The voicemail has only 2. If they are bad - the AA cannot transfer calls to an extention and cannot turn on/off message lights. If you have an 012 or 106 module - you can test your TTR's in the order they (modules) they are installed in the system.

If you have an 012 or 016 basic telephone module - plug in a single-line phone. Dial *04 - then 01 (for the first TTR) - then dial each keypad key in sequence (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,*,0,# - you should get a 2 or 3-beep confirmation that the TTR is OK. Repeat for the number of TTRs in the system. TTR 01 will be the first module to the right of the processor having a TTR, TTR 02 will be the next - and so on. An 012 module has 2 TTRs, an 016 has 4 TTRs, a voicemail module has 2, a 400 GS/LS TTR module has 4. An 008 OPT has 2 - as does an 800 DID.

My configuration is:

7- 408 GS/LS MLX cards
1- 008 MLX
1- 008
1- 007 MLM

I tried the 008, but got nothing - the 007 doesn't have any jacks - Am I missing something - do I have to set a port to do this?

I also watched in spm monitor and saw the following:

08:01:29 sid: 441 went off-hook
08:01:29 sid: 442 went off-hook
08:01:35 sid: 442 went on-
hook
08:01:46 sid: 441 went on-hook
Doesn't appear to be even trying to dial anything on either port.

You don't have an 012 or 016 Basic Telphone module - so you have no way to test the TTR's on your voicemail - the way I suggested. If you were running Magix R4, V7 software on the processor - you could look at the TTRs through maintenance - but you can't. If the voicemail is unable to transfer calls from the autoattendant and is unable to turn on/off message lights - then the 2 TTRs in the voicemail may be defective AND/OR you are running out of available TTRs in your system. You really MUST have 6 TTRs available for a 6-port voicemail. So my suggestion is get an 016 Basic Telephone module (which has 4 TTRs to supplememnt the 2 in your voicemail - now you will have the 6 you need for a 6-port voicemail - and the 016 module will allow you to connect a single-line phone to test your TTRs. If the two in the voicemail module are defective - you will need to replace the voicemail. You currently have no other modules in your system with TTRs - except for the voicemail - and it is effectively functioning as a 2-port with only two TTRs in your total system - assuming they (the 2 TTRs) are good.

I was looking at the 016, but it says compatible for R5.0 or greater, unless you know otherwise.

I can get the 400 GS/LS/TTR which also has 4 TTRs, though the 016 would be of more use...

The voicemail is a new addition (used module), and the phone system has been running with no TTRs up until now. I'll call the supplier and see if they will exchange it.

Thanks for your help.

Bill

You really should either replace or upgrade the processor to either the newest Legend or Magix firmware. Firmware upgrade cards are available from most vendors. The two TTRs in your voicemail may be good and may be defective. With only 2 TTRs it is possible that Port 6 is not getting an available TTR to turn on/off your message lights - but it should be able to grab one when the system is not busy/in use. So there may be a delay - but eventually the message lights should be updated.

Follow-up:

Thanks to all of the expert help I had on this issue, I added a 400 GS/LS/TTR module to give my Merlin system 4 additional TTRs.

I renumbered the boards, and (of course) it still didn't work. Checking in the monitor, I could see the 4 new TTRs and 1 from the MLM module. Also, I noticed the MLM had 2 out of 6 port LEDs out (and not in a row, it was 3 and 5 and only after I installed the new 400 module). I then busied out the slot, pulled the module, and reset the 4-port expansion card.

I then restored the module (no LEDs at all) reset the module (in programing)and after a christmas tree effect, all of the LEDs were green.

I dialed VM - 5 and 6 went off hook and my cell rang! Back at my MLX phone I had the MWL on!

WHOOPIE!! Sounds like you have it running!
