Message Notification and CLID

Do you need to have a Caller ID Card in the system to receive Message Notification from and External Voice Messaging System i.e. Phone Company? I've got the system configured with LS/DS Cards and can't get the "MSG" indicator. I bypass the switch and put an analog set with Message Waiting Light and it does light up.

If your telco is using FSK signalling for the message waiting indication, and not 'voltage', yes you need a CLID card... the MW indicator is actually a CLID message.

if you are seeing the light you may only have voltage and not CLID message notification. hook up a butt set in monitor mode then wihle listening to the line call and leave a message on your vm or/and clear all messages on your VM then listen for the data "burst" that notifies via "FSK" tones. if you don't hear them you will have to get your LEC to give you the "Visual Message Indicator" or "FSK MWI".

You will need the CI card in order to get the MWI anyway.
