Good morning all.

I'm thinking about purchaing a Magix (latest and greatest) for my home. However, I'm curious if anyone knows of a way so that when a VM Box gets a message for my Kitchen Extension, several phones can indicate that message. Then, once that message is deleted, all those phones clear the lamp?

I thought of using paging outcall to dial the MESSAGE FEATURE CODE, but that doesn't solve the problem with once the message is received. You'd have to clear the message from all the phones.

Thanks...

Kris

Don't thnk it will happen with the MWI's. TipHelp@charter.net

Can I do anything w/ outcalling and FAX Message Waiting? Any thoughts.

Have the outcalling, (I'm assuming a VMS), call your cell phone or pager. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a malbox for the kitchen, dining room, bath, etc. You could, perhaps have the kitchen as your main extension, and then call forward your extension to the various other rooms, or have coverage for that extension to other phones as well, so they all ring. The MWI stays on at the kitchen in this example. TipHelp@charter.net

I'm thinking if I put 4 other phones in the FAX MESSAGE WAITING EXTENSION programming, then have the Kitchen VMB outcall to a "FAX" extension that goes off-hook for the pre-programmed amount of time, then drops the call, that will light the other 4 lamps as well.

That actually might work, so long as there is not some kind of interplay between a "fax extension" and voice mail. The way the Fax Messaging works, is that you designate a fax extension then up to 4 message waiting receivers. Whenever that extensin is called, after a preset time, the lights go on. This is different than what the VMS does, and may foil the plan. If your plan is to make the VMS outpulse the same characters as what would happen in the FAX messaging sequence, ..... maybe, but I don't know what the codes would be in that case. Might be fun to try. TipHelp@charter.net

I don't think there's a sequence to activate FAX MESSAGE WAITING. However, the outcalled extension would be looped into a CO Trunk that answered w/ an auto attendant then hung up. The Timer would be programmed for 1 second.

Ah, but how do you clear the message?

On a display phone : Menu-Msgs-Delete
On analog: #54

Kris, I think you have way too much time on your hands to be thinking of solutions like this:)

Seriously though, the Magix is a bit overkill for a home, unless it is more of a Chateau. I am using a small Nortel system with a Flash mail for my home & home office setup. I like the features on it better than the magix. We have the main phone in the Kitchen setup as the main voice mail in the house, and my office phone has its own mail. When the kids get old enough, they will have their own boxes as well. If you still want to go the Magix route, look at some of the PC based third party voice mail systems. They can do things like lighting multiple lamps, etc. They tend to be a bit more robust and feature rich compared with the Avaya stuff. I use Keyvoice on all my Avaya switches and it is rock solid. I never have any complaints.

I've got the BCM (same thing) and it works OK, but I don't care for the routing. I'm actually TIE'd to a friend's house. Plus, its time for a change.

I usually switch around every year or so.

I just have a plain old merlin 1030 in my home. Until we downgraded to the house we are in now, We actually outgrew the 1030 and had to get the expansion!!! The system will work with the early and slightly touchy legend r3 mail. The system is old, but good. Just my 2cents worth.

Best of luck,

Austin

By the way, multiple message lights do work on my system if you set up coverage groups.
