Got a pair of 012s W/RG that, on a couple of ports being pushed 2500 feet, when Audix sets the message lamp the phone cannot then be used. You get talk battery, but no dialtone. Retrieve the message from another set, the set is okay again. Changed sets, no diff. Intercept with a butt set at ~2000 feet, same deal. Intercept at the port or at ~1500 feet or less (without the rest of the cable/set hanging off the end), works ok. Put the cable back on, dead. Swap to an 016 port or other 012 ports, works ok. Cable checks good. I have other ports pushing sets over 4000 feet on the same card without problems.

Bad ports? Bad ring generators?

Try swapping the 2500 foor extentions with one that works at 4000 frre and see if the problem stays with the port or followas the cable.

Just as an FYI avaya does not support leghnths that long, it would be hit or miss if it works

T/R phones on 012s and 016s are 1000 feet

ETR phones are 1000 feet

ETR ports programmed as T/R ports is 3000 feet

The ring generators supply the ringing voltage so It wont be a ring gen. problem

You could run new wire. Perhaps your wire is AWG 26, and replacing it with AWG 24 or 22 would work.
Naturally, running new wire is a hassle. Do you have spare pairs going to the sets in question? If so, you could bridge two pairs together, giving you effectively double the range.

Swapped modules with refurbs, all is working. Apparently the ports were just weak enough not to push out the distance. Doubling pairs wasn't an option, as they're maxed out on the 200 pair feeder to the plant. It'll all come together when they start swapping 2500s with 4400s.

Thanks for the assistance.
