Okay let me start off by saying I am not the regular person who would be maintaining the phone or voicemail system at this location. I'm in the IT department but since our phone expert is gone the higher ups figured this stuff "was all computers" and I should be able to figure it out. hah.

So I have an old system, an Octel 100 connected to a Meridian1 Opt 11C through a DMID. My problem is that since the whole voicemail system was physically moved from one spot to another no one's message indicator lights are working on their phones. If they had messages when the system was moved, there light stays on and will never turn off, if they didn't have messages their light will never come on.

Now, I've checked the cable connections a bunch of times and they are all labelled and should be in the correct locations. Can anyone give me some pointers on how I would go about troubleshooting this problem?

I realize this is an extremely broad question but any help would be appreciated, even a reference to a help file on the Meridian's cryptic command line commands.

Thanks!

The port LED for channel C is flashing whether or not there is a cable plugged into it. Does this mean there's an error?

I believe the flashing LED means it is not active or can't initialize the port, either on the DMID side or the Nortel side. I would try and plug in a 2008 phone in to see what you get.

Okay, so the problem is definitely channel C on the DMID. The port it is plugged into on the Nortel will give display and dial tone on a 2008 set. Also, if I connect channel A to that port it will initialize and work just fine.

So, now that I know where the problem lies is there a way to re-initialize channel C? I've already tried powering down and back up but I'm still getting the flashing LED. Do I have hardware failure?

Thanks

It sounds like it is possible that channel C is bad on the DMID. There is also information on reprogramming the phone in the DMID in the configuration note. Here is an excerpt:
• If serial communications to the DMID appears to fail then program the DMID’s phones using the following procedure:
1. Remove the DMID cover
2. Set the baud rate:
a Depress the Feature key on the NT phone
b. Press 2 2 9 6 0 0 on the dial pad
c. Depress the Feature key
3. Set the phone for asynchronous mode:
a. Depress the Feature key on the NT phone
b. Press 2 0 on the dial pad
c. Depress the Feature key
4. Set the phone to terminal mode:
a. Depress the Feature key on the NT phone
b. Press 2 8 on the dial pad
c. Depress the Feature key
5. Set the DCD from off to on:
a. Depress the Feature key on the NT phone
b. Press 3 6 on the dial pad
c. Depress the Feature key
6. Replace the DMID cover

You could try it out.

Chuck

Ah yes I remember seeing that. If that doesn't work I may have another DMID at one of our other sites and I'll try it out.

Thanks for all your help!

It maybe as simple as @MWOFF all and @MWI recalc and/or have the settings for the mwi changed in either of the machines?
good luck
