My boss has two phones on opposite sides of the building. I looked up Message Indicator in the NTP but it seems to say the only way a DN that rings on two phones can have simultaneous Message lights is if only one of the phones has the DN as a PDN. On the other phone it has to just be an appearance. I can't find anything about what I should do if there is one PDN on two telephone sets that are nowhere near each other. Should I just set both phones to FNA/HUNT to voicemail and make the cls MWA? Then both phones will light if that PDN has a message, right? and if my boss listens to his messages will BOTH phones' lamps be extinguished?

Hi,

The FNA/HUNT doesn't matter because the switch will look at the MARP. (If you print the DN you should see 2 TN's and 1 will show MARP)

If you set both phones with CLS MWA it should work...

i should've mentioned this before. We don't have MARP turned on and I've been advised against doing so, although I really don't know why I shouldn't do it. I just don't want a problem with the lamps in that TWO phones are being lit for one mailbox. thanks

mmmmm no marp... Why not?? We have them on all our switches, but that's in The Netherlands...

Because however many tcom analysts before I got here never programmed it. Can I just turn it on? We have a lot of attorneys whose exts ring on secretary phones. On the off chance that an appearance on a secy phone has MARP and I activate MARP in ld 17 will atty calls go to secy's voicemail? I don't think so but I want to check. thanks.

The MARP generally notes which phone is the controller for a DN. Not sure why you would not use it.

If you would like to have message indication on two or more Digital phones, you can add or "Allow Extended Messaging",
in CLS change SMWD to SMWA (Extended Messaging Indication Allow), if the second phone has a zero key with a mailbox you may need to add a feature between that MARP and the number you want to add the Message Indicator. Add the DN for the Bosses number, lets say its on key 4 scr 54321
on key 5 you add XMWK (space) 54321 (space) VoiceMail Extension, or number used to access voicemail.

Good Luck,
