Operator phones can only be connected to certain ports on the Legend. Depends on which type of phones you have. It sounds like you have a Legend (as opposed to a Magix), so you probably have MLX type phones. In this case, your first operator is connected to the first MLX port. The second Operator is connected to the 5th MLX port. 3rd to Operator to 9th port, 4th to 13th, etc.

Now those ports don't HAVE to be set up as operators, but they are the only ones that CAN be set up as operators.

So if any of those ports are empty, you can go into programming and redefine them as operators. If they are all in use, you need to free one of them up by moving the current phone to another port, then you can set up the operator port.

As far as programming, you would go to:

System Programming
Exit
Operator
Positions
Direct Line
Enter extension to be made into an Operator
Enter
Store All

Now the system will restart, and after it reboots, the port will be redefined as an operator position.

the phone is displaying busy message on the panel???

The whole system has to be idle to add operators. So, your better off using winspm and busy-out all your boards before you do this. Or, first thing in the morning or last thing at night. The system will busy out all the idle ext's and wait for the others to go idle to busy them.

The port is defined as operator but it's still can't answer inbound calls???

After you made it an operator, did you assign the lines to it? The easiest way might be to go to Extensions->Line Copy-> put in the extension number of the exsisting Operator and Enter, then put in the extension number of the new Operator, and Enter.
