I have heard there is a code you can enter on Merlin phones that will allow you to test the lights and buttons on the phone. Does anyone know anything about how this works? Thanks!

It does vary from Merlin to Merlin. What kind of system and phones do you have?

It certainly works on Merlin Legend R7 MLX Phones; I just tried it -- it's pretty cool. Does it work on the ATL phones connected to a legend?

No, for BIS-style ATL phones what you do is move the "T/P" switch down to "T". You will then see all the lights flash alternately on and off. This is designed to see if you have a burned out LED by any button. The buttons you just have to test one by one the old fashioned way.

According to the Maintenance & Troubleshooting manual R6.0, the *00 test is for MLX phones and tests the buttons and LEDs on the set. There is a specific sequence that you must go thru pressing the keys or you don't get the OK beep-beep. See page 3-6 for details and more.

Tom is correct in what he said, but is wrong about *00. If you use *00 with any digital phone connected to the legend you will get the LED's to light up.
