This customer has a Merlin Magix and they want some phones in 2 remote buildings 1500feet away.
Q1 Are the phones a 4 wire connection?
Q2 What is the distance limitation for the phones to work and if its less than 1500feet are there extenders you can fit to go to 1500feet?
Q3 I,m guessing you can expand the ksu beyond the one cabinet that exists now so this being the case are the expansion modules expanded with fibre, and if they are i would like to use some of the spare fibre strands that i have to run for the data network and install the expansion box in the remote location.
The remote buildings are fed via an undergroud duct for the entire 1500feet with no pull boxes so if i don,t have to pull in a multi pair external grade cable i would be happy.
Thanks for your time RAY

The typical range limit specified for MLX and Magix phones is 1,000 feet. If you are running them to a different building, Avaya recommends using an MLX-specific and/or multi-line analog (Magix)-specific IROB protector. If the distance exceeds 1,000 feet, you need to add Range Extenders (OPRE's or Off-Premises Range Extenders). MLX phones require 4-pair wiring, Magix need 2-pair - but really only use 1 pair, the other is for power.

Ahh - I forgot your question#3. The Avaya expansion box is designed to connect directly to the original box (side by side). You will see the connector - if you open the box and look by the last slot. There is a cover plate on the lower outside right-side. The expansion box has a similar plate on the left-side - and the two boards simply connect together. Not sure if you can make a lengthy connector between the two - probably not. Tom

You can use "fiber-modems" to use two fiber strands to simulate a T1. Then you can install ANOTHER Magix at the remote site, add a T1 card to each system, and network them.

The Magix TDL phones require one pair only. Those that need power (4424LD+, or 4424D+ with a DSS) receive it from an external "wall-wort" at the station.

TDL sets with 24 gauge wire are rated at 3000 feet.
TDL sets with 22 gauge wire go to 5000 feet.
Single line sets on an 016 T/R card go 1000 feet.
Single line sets from the top 6 ports of an ETR card will go 3000 feet.
And single line sets on an OPT card can go 18,000 feet!

If you have enough pairs in your underground cable, just add an expansion cabinet to your existing main cabinet, and add some cards and phones.
