Merlin Messaging Unified Messaging UMS C++ error

I have a Merlin Messaging 3 with UMS running on server 2003. When I launch the merlin messaging program from the pc in the other room to access the configuration , it begins to retrieve the mailbox info, etc from the Merlin Messaging and then when the Unified Message folder appears, it stops. Back at the server where the UMS is running there is an error: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. The application requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

Anyone seen this?

Unified Messaging was not designed for Exchange 2003 - but rather earlier versions of Exchange software. My understanding is that a specific Microsoft upgrade for Exchange 2003 that came out in June (not sure what year) makes Unified Messaging crash and burn. So you may have to rollback that upgrade. There were some additional posts that had more specifics about this issue last year - so use the search function to find them.
