I have a customer that has a merlin messaging r2.5 that keeps reseting to 01/01/96 for the time/date. Any ideas on what might be causing this? It has happened 2 times in the past week. I would think it might be a power issue, but they are plugged into a UPS unit.

It's a Magix R3.0 V7.0. I did check the error logs and they show no errors.

Happened again this morning. The time on the phones is fine, no errors showing losing power, but the merlin messaging goes back to 1/1/96. You think it is a bad hard-drive?

Verify the extensions in the voice mail calling group, that only the actual VM ports are there, and that each one answers immediately when you call them directly.

I assume that you have set the time manually through the system administrator's mailbox?

New info: It appears the Merlin Messaging is reseting at approx. noon every Sunday. I am going to track it this weekend to see if it happens again, but any ideas why this would happen at the same time every week?

I would connect to the Merlin messaging RS-232 port - and login as "tech1000" instead of "sysadmin" - and then check the messaging error logs. A forced reset - should log an error - and you can see what happened just before the reset - to look for clues as to what is happening.

I may have to do that. The client in this situation, of course, is over an hour away with no traffic. It happened again last Saturday around midnight as well as on Sunday. It seems to only happen on the weekends which made me think of power being shut off in the building, but the Magix itself shows no errors of loss of power.

The voicemail will do a soft (warm) reboot with even a minor power fluctuation. The processor is much less sensitive. You can check the processor error log for "VM out-of-service errors" which should log whenever the VM reboots. So - maybe an "uninterruptable" power supply could help prevent this.
