Merlin Messaging Sending VM from the Voicemail Port's Mailbox???

I have a Merlin Magix 2.5 with Messaging 2.5. They have 6 VM ports and use full-time AA. It has been in place over 10 years and doing fine. However...

Once in a while, a specific user will get a VM where the message header said "Call from Ext 7160" and then played silence. Ext 7160 is a port on the Messaging module (She has gotten the message from other VM ports as well). Otherwise she is getting 15-20 messages a day.

I have printed a report on her extension and everything looks fine. I cannot replicate the issue while on-site: I have called her internally, from the AA and submenu options, from AA via DXD, from AA via DBN.

My gut says that there is a disconnect issue as people listen to her greeting and hang up before leaving a message. Then before the Merlin disconnects, Messaging starts recording and cannot figure out who the caller is and blames the VM port.

I did not state that they get their analog lines from the building owner. So calls come in on a PRI to a Definity G3, which has analog extensions pointed to their Merlin LS ports.

None of the 30+ other users are reporting this issue after 10 years. This shoots my theory pretty dead. However, I cannot find a better hypothesis.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Thanks,
Frank

Is 7160 the last or next-to-last port of the 6 that are enabled? If so, is it possible that someone has a mailbox with outcalling enabled, and forgot to put the leading 9 in the number? And of course, the first few digits of the outside number would match the extension number that is receiving the messages.

If so, using the Merlin Messaging programming GUI makes it easy to look at everyone's outcalling numbers and if they have the feature turned on, without having to log into each mailbox.

No. They don't outcall to anyone.

I know this doesn't help much Frank, but YES...I've seen this happen a number of occasions and it makes me nutty. I feel that I thoroughly understand how VM, mode codes, CID and all that stuff works, but I'm still pressed to explain why this happens RANDOMLY and in only a VERY FEW of my customer sites.

You're not out of your mind; there's something going on that I haven't had the time to chase thoroughly (as it seems with you).

Sorry for any real lack of answer. Just know that this problem is not entirely unheard of.
