Merlin messaging R2.0 playback skipping

The customer describes the problem as a skipping record when they are playing back a message. It is an overall service affecting problem for all users and I have already deleted mailboxes and recreated those same mailboxes with no result. The problem is inconsistent and may occur 5 times a week between 25 users. At the moment the user will hangup and just try again to get non skipping playback.

 
It could be that the hard drive is going bad - with some bad sectors or sector errors. You could check the error log (in the voicemail) to see if it shows anything - but I am not sure if it records hard drive problems. There is no hard drive test to run - as in the earlier MLM007 or Merlin Mail units. To access the error log - you need to hook to the RS232 port via Hyperterminal on a laptop PC or transfer in via modem connected to an 016 T/R card. Use Tech1000 as the login name and the admin mailbox password as the password when prompted.
