Howdy folks. Just got my hands on a Merlin Messaging Release 1.1 (voice prompt from sysadmin mailbox says Release 1 0 20). The system came with two separate PC cards that say 'MERLIN Messag R1 2-Port Card' one of them as a code of '12H1 S1 V1 R1' and someone wronte '01D card' on it in ink, and the other says '12H1 S1 V1 R1 1000120972'. Both cards haver serial numbers printed below these codes. I have the System Manager's Quick Reference, but no installation/maintenance manuals. (The paper copy I have appears to be very similar to what is available from ELMO, but I can't actually find anything this old.)

At the moment, it is up and running without a PC card in it, and does seem to answer on two ports. Here are my questions:

1) Is there a way to dial in via modem to look at mailboxes and clean things up? I have the previous sysadmin password, but I don't know how to dial in via modem, and I don't have a way to get a computer back there to connect to the rs232 port

2) Do I need to have one of these two port cards in the system to have it run properly? Can I just insert it, or do I have to power down the Legend to power down the Merlin Messaging to insert the card?

3) Is there a way for me to have four ports active with these two separate 2-port cards, or do I need to find someone to swap me a 4port card for the two 2port cards?

4) Does anyone have any other documentation for this beast?

5) Is there a way to soft-reset the voicemail without taking down the whole switch?

Any other words of advice?
Thanks!
Joshua

The system sees the Merlin Messaging as if it was a 016 module. I think the 13th port of this module would be the internal modem. Dial this extension number to verify it answers with modem tone.

The 2-port card needs to be inserted with power off. If you acquired a 4-port card you would need to reboot the system to authorize the new ports. You would then assign these extra ports to the voicemail calling group (usually 770).

Docs should be available at support.avaya.com

The procedure to completely reset the MM to factory defaults is:
1 - Login to mailbox 0
2 - Dial 9 for admin
3 - Dial 98925327 to reset programming
4 - Give the MM about 5 minutes to reset

Well, the book I have says it's a 12 port card, and I get a 'busy' when I dial the 12th port number. (The other 'unused' go to error tone.)

I guess I need to find someone to swap the two 2-port cards for a 4-port one.

Unfortunately, the docs available at support.avaya.com are the same ones I already have in paper form, and do not include an installation/maint. manual. Anyone else have one? Anybody know the difference between the two 2-port cards I already have?

Okay... the 12th port is the right one, and it stopped being busy and started answering with modem tone after I put a 2-port card in the PC card slot.

I can display lots of stuff, but can you edit/create/delete via modem?
